The Bognor Regis Regeneration Board took time out from its October Board meeting to celebrate 10 years of positive partnership between the public and private sectors in driving forward regeneration in the town.

David Myers, Advisor to the Board said; “This unique Public/Private Partnership Board was formed in January 2007 to bring together key stakeholders and investors so that the town could benefit in a coordinated manner from their commitment and investment. Bognor Regis Ltd and the Joint Steering Group, chaired by the Duke of Richmond were the core of the new Board with Arun District Council’s Bognor Regis Task Force providing direct support to the Board through the Board’s first advisor, Richard McMann.” David added, “The Board is chaired by the original Chairman, Councilor Gillian Brown, initially assisted by the Vice Chairman Adrian Brown from Berkeley Homes who are still represented on the Board. The current Vice Chairman is Raof Daud from Sime Darby London Ltd who has recently completed the very successful regeneration of the Lec site at Shripney Road.”

Councilor Gillian Brown commented: “It has been a privilege to chair the Board, leading a dynamic group of Bognor Regis stakeholders who continue to work together to make Bognor Regis a great place to live, work, visit and invest. The Board and its partners have been instrumental in achieving in the region of £280m investment including Butlins, the University of Chichester, Sime Darby London Ltd, and Rolls Royce whilst securing funding for town centre public realm improvements and for the Town Centre Manager’s position. There is  now an  additional  £100m of further investment being delivered across the town including the new Butlins £35m Leisure and Splash Pool, the University’s £36m Engineering & Digital Technology Park and the Salt Box Enterprise Bognor Regis site.”

Vice Chairman Raof Daud said,  “The regeneration of the Lec  site has been a great example of the Board’s partners working together to improve the A29 gateway to Bognor Regis with the opening of the Sainsbury’s supermarket in 2012 and the more recent opening of Wickes and the Charlie Purley pub/restaurant. With the plans for the Regis Centre and Hothamton sites now coming forward the Board will continue to play an important role in facilitating the exciting regeneration of the town.”
